The Green Party today launched its ‘Vision for Dublin’ and said rezoning in Dublin’s city and surrounds should be a thing of the past. The vision includes:
- Doubling time for pedestrians to cross at traffic lights
- 30km speed limits in residential areas
- Trees on every residential street
- Develop the South Docks and Poolbeg Peninsula as flagship eco-districts
- More allotments and community gardens
- New Luas lines from Poolbeg to Rathfarm and Tallaght to Saggart
The vision for the inner city is:
- Provide allotments in the Phoenix Park, and an open-air café in Stephens Green
- Provide cycle paths and walkways along our canals.
- Build the Sutton to Sandycove cycle-way
- Set up a Dublin Rivers Taskforce
- Make Dublin Bay clean and sparkling
- Provide a car-free College Green
- Join the Luas lines in Dublin - down O’Connell Street, Dawson Street and College Green and continue to Finglas
- Provide urban beaches over the summer months in city parks
- Transform the Quays into a Liffey Boulevard that’s car-free one Sunday a month
- Natural flood protection with green eco-parks near waterways
