Where I come from
Some of you may recognise me as a former City Councillor. I’m a Dub, born and reared, part of the community and a Green Party activist. I have lived in this house now for nearly 20 years, and am the mother of two young teenagers. I am a member of Irishtown parish and an assistant Cub-scout leader.
I was elected to Dublin City Council for the old Pembroke ward, (roughly Sandymount to South Lotts and Ranelagh) for 8 years from 1991, working on Green issues like recycling, cycle lanes, better public transport., getting sewage treatment (! although the situation back then was worse) and conserving water. I was also co-opted on to the Council briefly to replace Ciaran Cuffe after he was elected to the Dail. Dublin City has moved on since then, but I am no stranger to the issues facing this challenging and vibrant area.
I studied Engineering Science in TCD and have worked in industry for 11 years as a professional engineer. Therefore I have a good technical background, useful for many of the engineering services (water, waste, road capacity) provided by Dublin city Council. More recently, I re-trained in secondary school Maths teaching.
